Organizations to Donate and Distribute Thanksgiving Turkeys -

NEW YORK CITY, November 21, 2018: Municipal Credit Union (MCU) kicked off the Season of Giving with its eighth annual MCU Turkey Donation Drive – an initiative to ensure that more than 1,500 in-need families across New York City will be able to celebrate the holidays with a healthy and festive Thanksgiving Dinner.

“We’re very proud of our annual MCU Turkey Donation Drive and the work we’ve been able to accomplish with our partners in making a difference for fellow New Yorkers this holiday season,” said MCU President & CEO Mark Ricca. “A holiday meal may seem like a simple gesture but for many families it isn’t guaranteed. As New York City’s oldest credit union, we will remain committed to the initiatives that work to make a meaningful difference – both big and small – to our members and the communities we serve.”

According to the New York City Food Metrics Report, more than 1.2 million New York City residents have reported that, at times they don’t know where their next meal is coming from, making up approximately half of all of the food insecurity reported in New York State.

Since 2010, The MCU Turkey Donation Drive has worked closely with city-based organizations to help more than 10,000 at-risk families across New York City enjoy a traditional thanksgiving dinner. This year, partner organizations, who worked to distribute the turkeys within their local communities, included the NYPD, FDNY; DOC; DSNY; DOE; Medgar Evers College; Bronx Community College; Brooklyn Hospital; Brookdale Hospital and Covenant House.

The annual Municipal Credit Union Turkey Donation is part of the Credit Union’s ongoing corporate mission to give back to its members and the communities where its members live and work.
