2. Speaking of ice cream there’s a new fat-free frozen dessert in town for you to try. just introduced its self-serve frozen yogurt bar. Fill up on your favorite flavors and topics, all $.50 an ounce.

3. The Greenburgh Nature Center has planted the seeds for many projects, and now they’re bearing fruit – literally! The Nature Center has been selected as a finalist in the Communities Take Root national competition. Created by Edy’s Fruit Bars and the Fruit Tree Planting Foundation, the competition will provide fruit orchards to community organizations to promote healthy eating. Cast one vote a day by registering online, going to the Map or List by State category and selecting Greenburgh Nature Center under New York (Scarsdale). Votes close on Aug. 31, so make sure to sign up as soon as possible.

5. The American Red Cross in Westchester County is holding an emergency blood drive today in an effort to boost the critically low blood supply due to last winter’s snowfall. All potential donors are encouraged to give blood, especially type O negative donors.
