How did you come up with the name?
I wanted a name that conjured up strength, longevity, fitness, etc. Then the question: where does one go when they need to build a home, fix something, etc? They need the tools first and they go to a hardware store. So that inspired the name BODYWARE.
Why start a business in this town?
It grew from a vibe. Driving along 5th Ave. four years ago, through the canopy of trees, I noticed many retail stores for rent. I did my homework and felt the need for my service for the Pelham community.
What business are you in?
Health and fitness.
What’s the most difficult challenge you’ve faced as a business owner?
Persuading the locals that what Bodyware offered (fitness training, private and semi-private) would make a difference in their lives. I am not from Pelham (live in Fleetwood) so there was a very cautious approach to my business. However, when they discovered that members could try my services risk free and participated in a complimentary consultation, they embraced the business and have had some members since I opened my doors.
What’s been your proudest achievement since opening?
It’s cumulative. The fact that what I offer changes peoples lives is a great and powerful feeling; when a 60-year-old has the energy to run around with their grand kids, when a spouse desires their partner even more after 20 years of marriage, when a 16-year-old has that special skip in their step because their self confidence grew. Losing weight is NOT the end game at Bodyware. Our focus is on the physical, emotional and mental aspects of life. Usually weight loss is a by-product of that.
How does your business give back to the community?
Bodyware has given to local charities, school kids who look to raise money for a cause, participate in local events. Bodyware strives to be the health and fitness authority in Pelham and the people who invest in their health and those who just don’t know how to start, Bodyware wants to be the catalyst to help them change their lives.
