Pelham Woman Accusing Of Attempted Assault Of Elderly Woman

A temporary order of protection was issued on behalf of the victim.

PELHAM, NY — A Pelham resident is facing a felony charge after police said she tried to assault an elderly woman. Yorktown police said Joyce Smith, 37, of 7th Street in Pelham, was charged with second-degree attempted assault, a felony, and endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor.

Police said, around noon June 9, there was a walk-in complaint of a domestic incident that happened about an hour earlier.

An investigation found that Smith try to physically injure an elderly woman by attacking her. The attack was in the presence of two children, police said.

Smith voluntarily surrendered at Yorktown Police Headquarters, where she was arrested and charged.

She was released on her own recognizance, and a temporary order of protection was issued on behalf of the victim.

Smith is scheduled to appear in Yorktown Justice Court July 12.
