PMHS senior swimmer Madison Hartigan received the prestigious Con Edison Scholastic Sports Award for the week of November 12.

From Pelham Union Free School District: PMHS senior swimmer Madison Hartigan received the prestigious Con Edison Scholastic Sports Award for the week of November 12.

Madison, who plans to continue swimming next year at Bucknell University, recently won Section 1 Championships in both the 200 and 500 freestyle and paced the 200 freestyle relay team to a second place finish. In the process of winning the 200 free, Madison broke her own previous meet record by over one second. She also broke the meet record in the 500 free that stood for 27 years.

She is now a three-time champion in the 200 freestyle, two-time winner in the 500 and was also a part of the section record holding 200 and 400 freestyle relays from last season.

Her successes outside of the pool are just as impressive. Hartigan has been named to the PMHS high honor roll all four years, is a member of the National Honor Society, the New York State science and math honor societies and the Italian Honor Society. She has also accumulated more than 100 hours of community service, having served as a swim instructor at the Empire Swim School, participated in Relay for Life and been an academic tutor.

“Maddie is incredibly deserving of this award,” said Athletic Director Steve Luciana. “Her performances in the pool speak for themselves, but just importantly, she is an outstanding leader, student and citizen. We’re thrilled that she received this honor.”

An interview with Maddie aired on WHUD radio, 100.7FM and is available for listening here.
