Popping the Prom Question…With Possums
Rather than go out with a bang, one Pelham senior goes out with a "pop" when it comes to asking his date to prom.

Rather than go out with a bang, PMHS senior Nick Ippolito went with a pop, when it came time to ask his date to prom.
“I’m gonna set the bar,” Nick said of what he was thinking while scheming a creative way to approach his date, Briar Buchanan.
Since Nick and Briar have a long-standing inside joke related to possums (no, we couldn’t get it out of him), Nick decided to incorporate the rodents into the request. So, he headed over to Party City, passed right by the cliché hearts and roses and hit the animal shapes that would have you calling pest control if you were to spot them in real life.

Nick bought five grey balloons and a 3-foot-tall box, on which he scrawled, “When am I going to ask you to prom?”
The balloons carried a message too. Their tails read: “When possums fly.”

With the help of his sister, Nick shoved the balloons into the box (one didn’t make it) and his friend delivered it to Briar in the library. Nick hid in a strategic spot, so he could watch the entire flying episode unfold, without getting spotted.
Briar was noticeably shocked.
“She was like, ‘what’s going on?’” Nick recalled. “But, she knew it was me because of the possums.”
Once Briar found Nick tucked in a corner, she gave him a hug and the answer he was hoping for.
