11th Annual Bethpage Turkey Drive Benefiting Island Harvest
Collects 2,900 Turkeys and 14,000 Pounds of Food Helping Thousands of Long Islanders Enjoy a Thanksgiving Meal
Long Island’s largest food drive event, the 11th Annual Bethpage Turkey Drive to benefit Island Harvest Food Bank, collected 2,900 turkeys and over 14,000 pounds of food helping thousands of Long Islanders enjoy a Thanksgiving holiday meal, that they otherwise would not have had. New York Jets legend Wayne Chrebet was also on hand for the special event, which took place on November 22, 2019, to help collect donated goods and support this worthy cause.
“Knowing that we help our Long Island neighbors in such a special and personal way during the holidays is what drives us to host the Bethpage Turkey Drive annually,” said Linda Armyn, Senior Vice President, Bethpage Federal Credit Union and the event’s organizer. “This year the community really came out to support the event; it’s such an extremely rewarding effort for all. I want to thank all of the local businesses and individuals that came out to volunteer their time and make impactful donations. Together, we have made a difference.”
Since the first Bethpage Turkey Drive was organized in 2009, hundreds of volunteers have come out to assist in the collection of more than 34,000 turkeys and over 130,000 pounds of food, which have been provided to Long Island families facing hardships. Island Harvest Food Bank services 400 community-based agencies and about 70,000 individuals receive food assistance from the food bank network each week.
