Exceptional Students MERIT A Round of Applause

19 Students Recognized by National Merit Scholarship Program

Plainview, N.Y. — The Plainview-Old Bethpage Central School District is pleased to recognize five seniors of Plainview-Old Bethpage John F. Kennedy High School (POBJFKHS) that have been selected as Semi-Finalists in the 2021 National Merit Scholarship Competition as well as 14 seniors that were named “Commended Students” in the 2021 National Merit Scholarship Program.

“We are pleased to recognize our Plainview-Old Bethpage students on this achievement,” said Dr. Mary O’Meara, Superintendent of the Plainview-Old Bethpage Central School District. “These students have admirably displayed their scholastic talents through their National Merit Scholarship accomplishments. We applaud their use of skills learned in our classrooms to help procure their spots among the best of the best.”

POBJFKHS students selected to compete as Semi-Finalists were Elijah Blum, Ian Irushami, Ishaan Jhawar, Brian Lee, and Dylan Rubin. These students are among just 16,000 students nationwide with the opportunity to compete for 7,600 National Merit Scholarships, valued at more than $31 million.

“These students are an exceptional representation of the diligence and enthusiasm our high school students possess,” said Mr. James Murray, Principal at POBJFKHS. “We wish these students the very best of luck throughout the rest of the competition.”

POBJFKHS would also like to recognize Ronald Cheng, John DiPierri, Justin Feiner, Jake Feldman, Aaron Gardos, Ziv Granov, Samantha Hesekiel, Joseph Kim, Rachel Koppelman, Aashi Mehta, Daniel Reilly, Ethan Straus, Benjamin Yacht, and Hephzibah Yoo as Commended Students in the 2021 National Merit Scholarship Program. These students have been recognized for their exceptional academic promise and are in the top 50,000 PSAT scorers nationwide.
