Police: Hicksville Man Posed as Doctor to Get Painkillers

A Hicksville man was arraigned at First District Court Thursday after being arrested for impersonating a doctor to get the powerful painkillers oxycodone and Xanax, police said.

Adeel Riaz, 28, was arrested in his home on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m., and was charged with 16 counts of falsifying business records in the first degree, 15 counts of identity theft in the second degree and 9 counts of criminal impersonation in the first degree.

According to police, between December 2013 and January 2014, Riaz represented himself as a licensed physician, called different pharmacies seeking to fill fraudulent prescriptions of the drugs and falsified business records.
