Light and Hope Illuminate Plainview
Annual Christmas tree lighting draws 200 people, and Santa, to Good Shepherd.
It wouldn't be the holidays without it: Good Shepherd Lutheran Church held its annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony Sunday and bathed Plainview in light and hope.
About 200 people attended the gathering on a hillside just outside the church on Central Park Road.
The crowd was led in holiday song first by the Rev. Eric Olsen, pastor of Good Shepherd, and then by a performance from members of the Plainview JFK choir. A children's choir added to the festivities.
Santa arrived on schedule as usual, delivered in person by members of the Plainview Fire Department. The Jolly Old Elf threw a switch and the great tree that has been used for so many years for this occasion lit up in spectacular colors.
