Oyster Bay Dump Fire Consumes Acres, Burns For Hours

A brush fire in the Town of Oyster Bay dump burned for several hours Tuesday afternoon.

PLAINVIEW, NY — A large brush fire burned for several hours and consumed acres of land in the Town of Oyster Bay dump Tuesday.

Around 1 p.m. July 21, the Plainview Fire Department was alerted to the fire. Smoke could be seen for miles as multiple departments from both Nassau and Suffolk counties responded to the blaze, along with multiple stump jumpers and tankers.

Firefighters battled the blaze in temperatures higher than 90 degrees Fahrenheit. Several firefighters needed medical attention for heat exhaustion afterward.
