Plainview Coronavirus Updates: April 16

PLAINVIEW, NY — The number of new coronavirus cases, which causes the COVID-19 disease, climbed to over 200 in Plainview Tuesday. There are now 26,715 confirmed cases in Nassau County, and 1,057 coronavirus-related deaths.

Here's a breakdown of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the Plainview area as of Tuesday:

• Old Bethpage: 58
• Bethpage: 97

TESTING INFO

Those interested in being tested for COVID-19 can use the county health department's online screening tool to share symptom and preregister for testing. A hotline is also available for questions at 1-888-364-3065, as well as an email form.

Drive-thru test sites have been established across Long Island. These facilities reduce density and the potential for spread by keeping sick and at-risk people out of health care facilities where they could infect others.

The drive-thru sites are prioritizing people showing symptoms and who are among the highest risk population and those who have been in close contact with someone with the disease, as well as health care workers, nursing home workers and first responders.

Testing is by appointment only. Test results are sent to people by phone or text, and can be found using an online portal.

SCHOOLS

All state school buildings will be closed until at least May 15, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced this month. The same goes for nonessential businesses.

Plainview Public Schools are using a remote learning plan and most teachers are using Google Classroom to share instructional material, assignments, and communications.

CANCELLATIONS/CLOSURES

Town of Oyster Bay marinas are only partially open for boat owners to access their vessels and perform essential maintenance.

Town of Oyster Bay parks remain open for walks, jogging and bicycling, but residents must stay at least 6 feet away from each another.

Playgrounds, athletic fields and courts are closed, including Bethpage Community Park, Borella Field, Field of Dreams, John Walker Memorial Park, Kevin T. Kolm Memorial Park, Plainedge Park and Robbins Lane Park.

While many in-person services at the Town are temporarily suspended, a live-chat function can help residents with information related to programs, permits and licenses, tax payments and other resources.

The Town Clerks Office temporarily suspended in-person services. Residents looking to conduct business with the Town Clerk’s Office, including parking permits, marriage licenses and death certificates, are encouraged to email rlamarca@oysterbay-ny.gov. Commuter parking permits that originally expired March 31st will be honored through April 30.

The Massapequa Career Center is offering free online resume review services for those individuals looking to re-enter the workforce after the public health threat.

The Diocese of Rockville Centre announced that all funerals, weddings and other services at Catholic churches across Long Island are canceled. In March, the Diocese said all masses for a month — including all Holy Week and Easter services — would be canceled due to the coronavirus.
