Nassau Crash Knocks Out Power To Traffic Light; Driver Flees
Officials say a Jeep crashed late Wednesday and snapped a utility pole.

PLAINVIEW, NY — A Jeep crashed into a utility pole in Plainview, causing traffic lights in the area to lose power, and the driver tried to flee.
Just before midnight Wednesday, the Hicksville Volunteer Fire Department and Nassau County Police received a report that a car had crashed into a pole and began smoking at the intersection of Woodbury and South Oyster Bay roads.
Firefighters and police officers found a Jeep snapped a utility pole, knocking out power to traffic lights at the intersection and leaving live wires on the ground, officials said. The driver took off on foot and was apprehended by police several blocks away.

Crews applied a speedy dry to fluid spills on the roadway and utility workers were called to repair and restore power.
