PLAINVIEW, NY — A worker at a Plainview school tested positive for COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus, according to state records and district communications.

The state Department of Health's COVID-19 Report Card website showed the positive test came from a non-teaching staff member at Plainview-Old Bethpage Middle School on Friday, Sept. 18. A worker in the school's main office confirmed to Patch the school opened Monday.

Patch learned Monday the worker was not in the building. A letter to the community that was sent out Tuesday, Sept. 15, and obtained by Patch said the district reported the positive test result the previous day due to information it received over the weekend.

"We worked with the NCDOH over the weekend and their investigation concluded that there was no threat or exposure of COVID-19 to students or staff at POBMS as a result of the staff member's reported positive test result," superintendent Mary O'Meara said in the letter.

Patch couldn't immediately find mention of the positive test on the websites or social media pages for either the district or the school.
