Plainview-Old Bethpage Senior Scores West Point Appointment

School officials say Jungmin Lee 'will be very successful at West Point and beyond.'

Plainview-Old Bethpage School District’s John F. Kennedy High School Senior Jungmin Lee recently received an appointment from the U.S. Military Academy (USMA) at West Point during a surprise visit from Richard Stiek, a USMA Admission Office Field Force Representative. Lee earned the unexpected visit through his outstanding achievement in academic and extra-curricular activities.

“We are extremely proud of our student Jungmin Lee, it is an honor to witness such a pivotal moment in his life,” said Superintendent Dr. Lorna Lewis. “Our mission is to provide students with the opportunities they need for life after school. Lee is an example of a student who takes advantage of all our district has to offer and we are sure he will be very successful at West Point and beyond.”

Lee has demonstrated academic success throughout his high school career, which earned him membership in the National Honor Society, Business Honor Society, Science Honor Society and the Tri-M Music Honor Society. In 2015, Lee was named a Commended Student in the 2015 National Merit Scholarship Competition for his high scores on the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test (PSAT). Other academic achievements include becoming a finalist in the DECA regional business competition and named an AP Scholar for his high scores on Advanced Placement tests.
