Plainview PAL Senior Basketball Referee Barry Getzoff awarded citation for smart thinking at game

On Wednesday, April 6 2016 Plainview PAL Basketball referee was presented with a special citation from Nassau County Legislator Judy Jacobs. Barry Getzoff, one of the organization's senior refs, went above and beyond the call of duty last month. One of the coaches in a youth game fainted while coaching the game . The coach (usually an excitable fellow) has a heart condition. Barry kept the situation calm. Spectators noted that the coach actually
fainted twice. Barry instructed him to remain seated after the first episode. The coach later told officials that without Barry's smart thinking things could have gotten much worse. Barry and several others called 911. The EMS squad responded and the coach's situation stabilized. The game (7/8th grade) was stopped. The kids were a bit shook up. To honor Barry and the coach, PAL along with Legislator Judy Jacobs presented Barry with a plaque and a citation at halftime of a later game inside a gymnasium packed with fans, family, friends, and PAL officials.
