Plainview Students Raise $18,000 For Charitable Causes
Fundraising Efforts Were Made by Plainview Students, Raising Almost $18,000 for Charity
Plainview, NY — Drawing on compassion, 160 students from the Plainview-Old Bethpage John F. Kennedy High School Robert F. Savitt National Honor Society Chapter fundraised almost $18,000 in donations for various charities. The students were able to achieve this through participating in a 10K lasting the duration of October, pledging a minimum of $50 each. In total, the students ran over 823 miles.
“We are incredibly impressed with our students for showcasing diligence and inspiring others through their efforts to benefit others,” said Dr. Mary O’Meara, Superintendent of the Plainview-Old Bethpage Central School District. “Achieving something of this nature in the midst of a pandemic is extremely difficult, but these students were able to successfully encourage the community and participation of their peers. We are so proud to have students with this kind of drive and creativity and who exemplify the values of our District.”
For the 10k, the students were divided into 9 teams--each led by a National Honor Society executive board member. The activity was overseen by faculty advisor, Kelly Verdi. All participants were required to run separately, recording the number of miles using various apps and pedometers to monitor their miles. A number one priority for each member who participated was adherence to social distance regulations, allowing students to get out, get some exercise, and raise money for worthy causes.
