Plainview, N.Y. — The Plainview-Old Bethpage Central School District is proud to announce that Plainview-Old Bethpage John F. Kennedy High School (POBJFKHS) has been named by the U.S. Department of Education as a Blue Ribbon School of Excellence. POBJFKHS was honored specifically as "high performing" for their academic achievements as measured by state assessments or nationally normed tests.

“This is a distinction that is reserved for only a few hundred schools across the nation,” said Dr. Mary O’Meara, Superintendent of the Plainview-Old Bethpage Central School District. “It is a direct result of the dedication of our students, teachers and families that helps ensure our District maintains strong academic excellence.”

The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program recognizes public and private elementary, middle, and high schools based on their overall academic excellence or their progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups. This year, just 372 schools nationwide were given the distinction. This is the first time a Plainview-Old Bethpage school has won the award.

“Our school community fully supports all students and their interests,” said POBJFKHS Principal, Mr. James Murray. “Our educators that teach with passion and an administrative team devoted to professional development in conjunction with our hard-working students – is what made earning this award possible for our school.”

The 2020 National Blue Ribbon Schools Awards Ceremony hosted by Betsy DeVos and the U.S. Department of Education will be held virtually Nov. 12 and 13.
