Winter's Grip Hanging On: Snow Showers Possible Sunday

The first week of spring was anything but spring-like and we kick off the new week Sunday with winter's grip hanging on.

The high temperature will struggle to top 40 degrees and with winds factored in, it will feel more like the low-30s. There's also a chance of snow showers before 2 p.m.

Canadian high pressure will then build into the area through Tuesday. The result will be dry conditions, little if any in the way of cloud cover and below-normal temperatures, the National Weather Service says.

Come Thursday, though, temperatures are expected to make it into the 50s.

"Much of the storm-weary Northeast may have a real taste of spring later this week," AccuWeather Chief Meteorologist Elliot Abrams said.

It's probably won't be a good idea, though, to rush into temperature-sensitive spring projects such as concrete work, outdoor painting or gardening.

"Toward the end of the month and into the first part of April, colder air is likely to move back in," according to AccuWeather Lead Long-Range Meteorologist Paul Pastelok.

Sunday- Scattered rain and snow showers before 2pm, then a slight chance of rain showers after 4pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 42. Wind chill values between 30 and 35. Northeast wind 13 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Sunday Night- Partly cloudy, with a low around 29. Wind chill values between 20 and 25. Northeast wind 10 to 15 mph.

Monday- Sunny, with a high near 46. Wind chill values between 20 and 30 early. Northeast wind 10 to 14 mph.

Monday Night- Clear, with a low around 25. Northeast wind around 9 mph.

Tuesday- Sunny, with a high near 45. Northeast wind around 8 mph.

Tuesday Night- Partly cloudy, with a low around 34.

Wednesday- Mostly cloudy, with a high near 46.

Wednesday Night- A 30 percent chance of showers before midnight. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 38.

Thursday- Mostly cloudy, with a high near 53.

Thursday Night- A 40 percent chance of rain after midnight. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 42.

Friday- A 50 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 52.
