SUV Crashes Into Tree In Plainview, Trapping Driver; 1 Hurt
Officials say an SUV crashed into a large tree near Plainview Old Bethpage Park. Town of Oyster Bay workers helped remove a trapped driver.

PLAINVIEW, NY — An SUV crashed into a tree in Plainview and Town of Oyster Bay workers helped remove a trapped driver as the car began smoking.
Around 8:30 a.m. Friday, the Plainview Fire Department and Nassau County police were called for a report of a crash and ensuing car fire with a trapped driver on Washington Avenue, near Kennedy Drive, officials said.
A Toyota Scion lost control on Washington Avenue and crashed into a large tree. Town workers at Plainview Old Bethpage Park helped pull the driver from his mangled SUV before first responders arrived, officials said. The car did not catch fire.

Crews applied chemicals to the roadway to treat fluid spills and the driver was taken to a hospital. His condition was not immediately known.
Washington Avenue was closed in both directions while the car and debris were cleaned.
