Sweltering Heat Before More Storms For Long Island
A hazardous weather outlook and a heat advisory have been issued as hot, stormy weather continues. Will the weekend be spared?

Nearly 5 inches of rain fell on Long Island through the first 13 days of August, three times more than normal for the period, and there's more on the way Friday and Saturday.
"Thunderstorms late Friday into Friday night may produce strong winds and heavy rain which could result in flash flooding," the National Weather Service said in a hazardous weather outlook issued for the island.
Thursday will be dry, but very hot. A heat advisory is in effect in Nassau County until 6 p.m. Friday with heat index values expected to reach the mid-90s.

Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency. Dial 911 if it's suspected.
The rain may hold off until sunset Friday, but the NWS says thunderstorms are likely from 8-11 p.m. A chance of showers and thunderstorms will continue through the day Saturday. Sunday should be dry, but much cooler with highs in the 70s.
