PLAINVIEW, NY—Nassau County District Attorney Madeline Singas announced Thursday that two Long Island men have been indicted in the January killing of a Plainview man. The incident, officials said, stemmed from a possible road rage incident.

Kenneth Regan, 21, of Centereach, was arraigned Wednesday by Judge Teresa Corrigan and charged with murder in the second degree and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree. Regan is due back in court on May 11. If convicted of the top count, he faces a maximum of 25 years to life in prison, according to the district attorney's office.

Douglas Coudrey, 22, of Eastport was arraigned on March 12 by Judge Meryl Berkowitz and charged with murder in the second degree and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree. Coudrey is due back in court on April 7. If convicted of the top count, he faces a maximum of 25 years to life in prison, officials said.

“These defendants are accused of following Justin Gottlieb home following a road rage incident and senselessly shooting him to death,” DA Singas said. “I’m grateful to our detectives for tracking down these alleged murderers so we can bring justice to the Gottlieb family.”

DA Singas said that on Jan. 14, at approximately 5:30 p.m., the victim, 27-year-old Justin Gottlieb of Plainview, was in his vehicle, heading home from work in Jericho and was near his home on Margaret Drive East, when a white vehicle, reportedly operated by the defendants drove up next to his car. Police said the two men fired a .9mm handgun at Mr. Gottlieb, striking him twice, once in the leg and once in the chest.

After the shooting, police said Gottlieb ran into his parent’s home nearby and told his father that he was followed home by a white vehicle and that he had been shot. Gottlieb was then transported by ambulance to Plainview Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at approximately 6:40 p.m.

Following an investigation by NCPD Detectives, the two men were arrested on Feb. 6 at the Riverhead Correctional Facility, where they were being held for an unrelated incident. According to police, it is believed the shooting was followed by an earlier incident of road rage between the victim and the two men.

Senior Assistant District Attorney Ania Pulaski of DA Singas’ Major Offense Bureau is prosecuting this case. Defendant Regan is represented by Steven Barnwell, Esq. and Coudrey is represented by Christopher Cassar, Esq.

According to the district attorney's office, the charges are merely accusations, and the two men are presumed innocent until and unless found guilty.
