Warming Centers In Nassau County To Open This Week

Residents can visit the centers to escape the cold this week.

NASSAU COUNTY, NY - With the cold temperatures and low wind chills hitting Long Island this week, Nassau County officials announced on Wednesday that several warming centers will be open.

The National Weather Service issued a hazardous weather outlook for a developing coastal storm to bring heavy snow to the area Saturday into Saturday night.

The following center locations will be available to residents this week:

  • Cantiague Park Ice Rink – 480 W. John Street, Hicksville, 516-571-7056 open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Mitchel Field Administration Center - 1 Charles Lindbergh Boulevard, Uniondale, 516-572-0400 open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • TOB Ice Skating Center at Bethpage – 1001 Stewart Avenue, Bethpage, 516-433-7465 open from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m., Tuesday December 26 – Saturday, December 30
  • Glen Cove Senior Center – 130 Glen Street, Glen Cove, 516-759-9610 open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays

The Nassau County Winter Homeless Hotline - 1-866-WARMBED - is open and runs seven days a week through March 31.

Between the hours of 6 p.m. and 8 a.m. Monday thru Thursday, and Friday from 6 p.m. thru Monday at 8 a.m., employees from the Department of Social Services (DSS) will make appropriate referrals and provide shelter placement.
