Carvel Owner Wins Bid on Former KFC; 'Immediate' Clean-Up Overdue

The former Kentucky Fried Chicken may look the same as it has over the past few years, but after the parcel was auctioned off last fall, plans at the very least are in the works to clean the lot up – though it remains up in the air what will happen after that. 

Paul Famighetti, who owns the abutting parcel which currently hosts a Carvel Ice Cream, said on Monday that he bought the lot at the Suffolk County Property Auction in October for "much more than you might have expected."

According to the county auction unit, the highest bid on the property went for $220,000, after starting at $10,000. Should the two sides fail to close on the parcel, it will go back to auction.

Considering he has yet to receive the title, Famighetti said he's tentative to disclose any long term plans for the lot at the corner of Route 112 and Hallock Avenue.

But one thing is for sure, he said. It will get cleaned up ASAP.

"Our first priority is to take care of the roof and landscaping there," he said. "It's a terrible eyesore and needs to be cleaned up immediately."
