100s Without Power In Brooklyn After Winter Storm

Weather-related outages left several hundred Brooklynites without power on Friday, according to outage maps.

BROOKLYN, NY — Hundreds of Brooklynites were still without power Friday morning after a winter storm swept through New York City.

More than 600 Con Edison customers were without power in the borough as of noon on Friday as a winter weather advisory from Thursday's snowfall extended into the start of the weekend.

The outages, almost all of which were marked as "weather-related," were largely in Central Brooklyn, where more than 400 customers were without power Friday, according to the outage map.

Among the outages was an entire block that lost power near the Bed-Stuy border thanks to a manhole fire on Hancock Street. The "manhole problem" was marked as weather-related on the Con Edison map.

Outages extended along Hancock Street throughout the neighborhood as far as its intersection with Bedford Avenue, where another 29 people were without power. It was unclear whether all the street's outages were due to the manhole problem.

Another weather-related manhole problem was also the source of power outages in Crown Heights.

That manhole, on Empire Boulevard near Schenectady Avenue, left more than 100 customers without power, according to the map.

Large outages in Crown and Prospect Heights were also found on Linden Place, Pacific Street and Albany Avenue. More than 50 people total were without power thanks to those outages, according to the map.

Con Edison estimated that power would be restored as early as 3:30 p.m. and as late as 7 p.m. Friday for the customers.

The city's winter weather advisory is in place until 7 p.m. on Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

Thursday's snowstorm brought about four inches of snow to the boroughs. A mix of snow, freezing rain, sleet and rain is expected Friday.
