35 Winthrop St. Fire Displaces At Least 3 People in Prospect-Lefferts Gardens
The Winthrop Street fire started shortly before 8 p.m. on Jan. 24, the FDNY said.

PROSPECT-LEFFERTS GARDENS, BROOKLYN — A fire Wednesday night burned through several apartments at 35 Winthrop St., displacing at least three individuals, the Red Cross said.
An FDNY spokesman said the three-alarm fire started shortly before 8 p.m. on Jan. 24 and was under control by 10:07 p.m. The blaze damaged multiple units on the building's top floor, according to the spokesman, as well as the space between the apartments' ceiling and the structure's roof.
No injuries were reported to residents or firefighters, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation, the spokesman said.

A Red Cross spokesman said the charity organization provided temporary housing and financial assistance to two families consisting of three adults, as well as financial assistance to three other families. Housing assistance typically involves a room in a hotel for several nights, while financial assistance consists of money for food and clothing, the spokesman said. The families will also be connected with Red Cross counselors to help them learn what resources are available to them, according to the spokesman.
