Attempted Rapist Followed Woman Home From Subway In Brooklyn: DA
Kareem Gilmore was arraigned Monday for the March attack, when he tried to rape a woman in her apartment building, according to prosecutors.

BROOKLYN, NY — A man is facing up to 25 years in prison after he tried to rape a woman he followed home a Brooklyn subway station, prosecutors announced.
Kareem Gilmore, 32, was arraigned Monday on charges stemming from the March 27 attack, when he followed a 24-year-old woman from the Beverly Road 2 and 5 station to her apartment building around 2:40 a.m., prosecutors said.
“This defendant is alleged to have followed the victim for several blocks before ambushing her in a violent attack," Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez said. "No woman in Brooklyn should feel unsafe walking the streets at night or in the refuge of their own homes. We will continue to vigorously prosecute cases of sexual violence and get justice for victims.”

The 24-year-old noticed Gilmore had followed her into the building after he trailed her for several blocks from the station, prosecutors said.
She tried to run up the stairs, but Gilmore caught up with her and dragged her to the ground, where he beat her, groped her and tried to take off her clothes, prosecutors said.

The woman was able to escape from Gilmore and he fled the building, prosecutors said.
The woman was left with bruises on her legs, a swollen and bleeding face, head pain and fear of further injury, prosecutors said.
Both security footage and a neighbor who heard commotion in the stairwell saw Gilmore run from the front door, prosecutors said. The security footage also shows Gilmore following the woman into the building, according to investigators.
Gilmore was charged with first-, second- and third-degree burglary, second- and third-degree assault, sexual abuse, forcible touching, criminal trespassing and other charges for the attack, prosecutors said.
He was released on $20,000 bail and ordered to return to court in July. He faces up to a 25-year sentence if convicted of the top count, prosecutors said.
