Bodycam Video Shows Cops Chase Down Christmas Eve Shooter In BK
William Moss was arrested after shooting an officer in his bullet-proof vest in what cops called a "Christmas miracle," according to police.

CROWN HEIGHTS, BROOKLYN — Newly-released body camera video shows police chasing down a man in Crown Heights moments after he opened fire on a group of police officers on Christmas Eve, according to police.
The video — released because two of the officers fired at the man — comes two months after William Moss, 20, was charged with attempted aggravated murder for the Dec. 24 shooting at his girlfriend's house near Bergen Street and Ralph Avenue, according to police.
Police had been interviewing the girlfriend's daughter when Moss came up to the house and shot at the group from the sidewalk just after 9 p.m. His girlfriend had called 911 moments before saying Moss was on his way with plans to "shoot up police," according to the video.

Police later called the incident a "Christmas miracle" given that the only officer who was hit survived because the bullet lodged into his bullet-proof vest. He was released from the hospital the next day with only a bruise.
The video does not show the shooting, but follows two officers who had been sitting in a police car outside the house in a two-minute chase to arrest Moss, who ran away after firing, police said.

Both officers, Tyrell Major and Marcella Shamblee, fired at Moss shortly after getting out of their car, police said. Moss was not hit by the gunshots.
The officers eventually catch up with Moss on Prospect Place, where he drops the gun and gets on the ground.
"Drop the f***ing gun! Put it down!" Major screams as he approaches Moss.
Moss was charged with multiple counts of attempted aggravated murder, attempted aggravated murder upon a police officer or peace officer, attempted assault, reckless endangerment and criminal possession of a weapon.
The incident was among a string of police-involved shootings around the holidays.
In late December, a man who was roaming the streets in Brownsville with a machete was fatally shot when he charged at officers with the knife.
A day earlier, a few miles away in East Flatbush, police shot at an unarmed man after he charged at officers as they arrested another man on Lenox Road, according to NYPD officials.
Police also shot at a man who lunged at officers with a knife in an East Flatbush apartment on Jan. 4. Body camera video of that incident was also released this week.
The NYPD are required to release body camera footage within 30 days if an officer fires a gun under new rules put in place last year.
