'Compare Foods' Supermarket In Crown Heights Becomes 'Gala Fresh'

CROWN HEIGHTS, BROOKLYN — The Compare Foods supermarket on St. Marks Avenue in Crown Heights is now Gala Fresh, a name change that won't affect most of the store's offerings, its manager said.

The re-branding happened about "three weeks ago," according to manager Yojanz Perez. "It’s the same," Perez said. "Only the name" has changed.

Perez said a small amount of branded items have switched to Key Food-brand. "But this is like 1 or 2 percent of what we carry," Perez told us. The rest of the products stay the same.

Indeed, Gala Fresh appears to be underneath the Key Food umbrella; the St. Marks Avenue store shows up on the "store locator" on Key Food's website.

"If you pay with a debit or credit card, you’re going to see on the statement, Gala Fresh," Perez said.
