Crown Heights Nears 50-Percent Vaccination Rate: Data

CROWN HEIGHTS, BROOKLYN — Though among the last neighborhoods in New York City to do so, Crown Heights is nearing the halfway mark in getting its residents vaccinated against the coronavirus, data shows.

The three ZIP codes that cover the majority of Crown Heights had either surpassed or were near the 50-percent milestone on Thursday, meaning just about half of residents over the age of 18 have gotten at least their first dose of the vaccine, city data shows. In one of the ZIP codes, 11216, half of adults have been fully vaccinated against the virus.

The neighborhood's fourth ZIP code, 11233 — which includes an eastern sliver of Crown heights as well as parts of Brownsville and Bed-Stuy — was the furthest behind with 40 percent of adults having gotten at least one dose.

The progress comes about a month after the first of the four ZIP codes reached the 50-percent marker.

Brooklyn as a whole reached 50-percent earlier this month, the second to last borough to do so.

The borough's wealthiest, majority-white neighborhoods still have the highest vaccine rates, including nearby Prospect Heights, where nearly 75 percent of adults had gotten at least their first shot as of Thursday.

The two Crown Heights ZIP codes with the highest vaccination rate are those that neighbor Prospect Heights.

The city has struggled to reach New Yorkers of color and the neighborhoods hardest-hit by the coronavirus crisis since the start of its vaccine distribution.
