Crown, Prospect Heights COVID Rates Dip Below 1 Percent: Data

CROWN HEIGHTS, BROOKLYN — Despite concerns surrounding its coronavirus vaccination numbers, Crown Heights all of Crown and Prospect Heights ZIP codes have finally reached a less than 1 percent positivity rate for the virus, data shows.

The last of the five ZIP codes that cover the two neighborhoods dipped below a 1 percent seven-day average rate Wednesday after a few of the ZIPs hovered just above the milestone for at least a week, city data shows.

The low rates come as the city reaches its own milestones in fighting back the virus. The citywide seven-day average has been below 1 percent since late May, reaching its lowest numbers since the pandemic began in the days since.

In Crown Heights, the low coronavirus rates come despite concerns about the vaccination distribution in certain sections of the neighborhood.

Two of Crown Heights' ZIP codes were added Monday to a list of the 25 ZIP codes with the lowest vaccine rates in the state. Gov. Andrew Cuomo has urged local governments to pool resources to those ZIP codes as he aims to lift all remaining coronavirus restrictions when 70 percent of New York's adults have gotten at least their first dose of the vaccine.

The two Crown Heights ZIP codes on the list — 11213 and 11233, which also includes Brownsville — have the highest coronavirus rates at 0.5 percent and 0.75 percent as of Tuesday, data shows.

The lowest in the two neighborhoods is found in 11225, which includes Prospect Lefferts Gardens, at 0.4 percent.
