Update: Fire on Bergen looks 'Suspicious'
A deputy fire chief at the scene of a fire on Bergen Street near Washington Avenue said the cause of the incident was suspicious.
UPDATE: An FDNY spokespeson said the fire is still under investigation as of Wednesday afternoon.
A fire broke out in the second floor rear bedroom at 727 Bergen St. in Prospect Heights early Tuesday evening.
Deputy Fire Chief Patrick Clifford said the occupant was home when the fire began, but the resident did not have an explanation for how it started.

The fire, which began some time after 5 p.m. and was officially under control by 5:46, burned through the second and top floors of the building and the smell was noticeable for blocks. More than five fire trucks responded to the call.
"We didn't see flames, we just saw smoke coming out," said Cyril Tyson, a mechanic who works across the street at DT Automobile Body.
David DaSilva lives next door at 725 Bergen St. He said his wife saw smoke coming in through an open window and called him.
"I was concerned about my house," he said. "When you hear fire first thing you want to do is say 'What's going on?'"
Clifford said they are handing the investigation over to the fire marshal.
