BROOKLYN, NY — A statue of George Floyd that was unveiled in Brooklyn over the weekend was found vandalized by a far-right extremist group on Thursday morning, according to police.

The 11-foot monument, which was unveiled with a Juneteenth celebration on Saturday, was found spray-painted around 7:20 a.m., police said.

Floyd's face and the words on the statue's five-foot pedestal were painted over in black and the words "patriotfront.us" were painted in white on the pedestal, police said.

"A racist, loathsome, despicable act of hate," Mayor Bill de Blasio called the vandalism."...We will bring these cowards to justice.

The phrase painted on the statue is the website for Patriot Front, a white nationalist hate group created in the aftermath of the "Unite the Right" rally in Virginia in 2017, according to the Southern Poverty Law Center.

The city's Cleanup Corps were repairing the statue on Thursday afternoon.

There were no arrests for the vandalism as of Thursday afternoon. The NYPD's Hate Crimes task force is investigating the incident.

The vandalism is not the first time signs of the hate group have popped up in Brooklyn.

Last year, flyers from the white nationalist group were seen posted in Bay Ridge and Park Slope, spurring Brooklynites to rally against the propaganda.
