How To Stay Cool In Prospect, Crown Heights During NYC Heat Wave
Here's a round-up of indoor cooling centers and outdoor options in the neighborhood.
CROWN HEIGHTS, BROOKLYN — With large swaths of the borough among the most "heat vulnerable" parts of New York City, Brooklynites will want to make a plan for staying cool during a heat wave that will descend on the city this week.
The city is under a heat advisory until Tuesday at 8 p.m. as temperatures are expected to feel like 101 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.
In Brooklyn, there are six community board districts classified with a Heat Vulnerability Index 5, or an area with the highest risk of heat injury or death.

Four of the borough's community board districts, including Prospect and Crown Heights', fall under the Index 4 classification, the second-highest risk.
To stay cool, New Yorkers should note nearby cooling centers, beaches, community pools, misting stations and other options, emergency officials warned Monday.

- P.S. 009 Teunis G. Bergen — 80 Underhill Ave.
- International High School at Prospect Heights — 883 Classon Ave.
- Shalom NSC (Seniors Only) — 483 Albany Ave.
- P.S. 91 — 532 Albany Avenue
The neighborhood has dozens of drinking fountains, misting stations, spray showers and "tree canopies" that neighbors can use to stay cool. Find a searchable map of those options here.
