Largest MLK Tribute In New York City To Move Online For 2021
The co-founder of the Black Lives Matter Global Network will give a keynote speech at the Brooklyn Academy of Music's annual event.

BROOKLYN, NY — A founder of #BlackLivesMatter will join in the Brooklyn Academy of Music's annual tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King Junior, the organization announced this week.
Alicia Garza, co-founder of Black Lives Matter Global Network, will give the keynote address at the event, which this year will be streamed virtually on Martin Luther King Day in January, BAM announced on Wednesday.
BAM's Annual Brooklyn Tribute To Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., in its 35th year, is the largest public tribute to Dr. King in New York City.

This year, it will be streamed on BAM's website on Jan. 18 and available on their YouTube and Vimeo through Feb. 21. It is the first time the event will be pre-recorded since its inception.
"The annual celebration brings together artists, activists, civic leaders, and the public for a communal commemoration and reflection on the life and legacy of Dr. King," BAM said in a release.

Garza is the author of "The Purpose of Power" and principal at Black Futures Lab. She co-founded the Black Lives Matter Global Network in 2013.
In addition to Garza, the event will feature performances by PJ Morton, Tarriona "Tank" Ball, Sing Harlem!, Timothy DuWhite, Ashley August, and more.
