Memorial For DMX Coming To The Barclays Center: Report

BROOKLYN, NY — A memorial for hip-hop icon DMX is coming to the Barclays Center, according to reports.

Family and friends of the rapper, who died earlier this month after a drug overdose, will host the event on April 24, Page Six reports.

The event will be closed to the public, but will be live-streamed for fans online, according to the outlet. The Barclays Center is restricted to 10-percent capacity under New York's coronavirus restrictions.

The memorial is the latest tribute to the rapper in the borough since his death.

In the days after his death was announced, the rapper's music could be heard blasting through the streets of Brooklyn as fans mourned his passing.

A funeral service for the rapper, who was raised in Yonkers, is also planned for this weekend, according to reports.

DMX, who was born in Mount Vernon, New York, started rapping in the early 1990s. His debut album, "It's Dark and Hell Is Hot," was released in 1998.

The multiplatinum-selling album was anchored by several hits including "Ruff Ryders' Anthem," "Get At Me Dog," "Stop Being Greedy" and "How It's Goin' Down."

Along with his musical career, DMX was an actor, starring in the 1998 film "Belly" and in 2000′s "Romeo Must Die" with Jet Li and Aaliyah. DMX and Aaliyah teamed up for "Come Back in One Piece" on the film's soundtrack, according to The Associated Press.

DMX was taken to the hospital April 2 after overdosing on drugs at his home, according to reports by TMZ and Variety.
