New Apartments Planned For Crown Heights Daycare, Grocery Sites

CROWN HEIGHTS, BROOKLYN — A daycare center on Bedford Avenue and a grocery store on Utica Avenue could be the site of new apartment buildings coming to the neighborhood, records show.

Applications for a 10-story building on the corner of Bedford Avenue and St. Johns Place and a five-story building on Utica Avenue near Park Place were recently filed with the city, records show.

The buildings, first reported by New York YIMBY, will bring more than 100 new residences to the neighborhood, likely apartments based on their size.

The 10-story building at 1499 Bedford Ave. is found at a location of Friends of Crown Heights Educational Center. Patch has reached out to Friends of Crown Heights to ask if the new building will mean closing the daycare location.

According to the application, the building will include 66,528 square feet, or 98 units, of residential space. It will also have 882 square feet for commercial use and room for 49 enclosed parking spots.

Developers unveiled renderings for the building over the weekend.

At the Utica Avenue building, developers plan to build 8,000 square feet of residential space, 1,875 square feet of commercial space and 625 square feet of community facility space, records show.

The residential space will include 15 units.

A one-story building with a grocery store currently sits on the property.

Demolition permits for both properties have not yet been filed.
