No Leggings, Bright Nail Polish For Moms, Crown Heights School Demands
"It should not be hard to meet these requirements, as our students need to keep similar rules," a letter from the school's director says.
CROWN HEIGHTS, BROOKLYN — A girls school in Crown Heights is demanding that mothers follow a strict set of rules to set an example for their daughters, including not wearing leggings or bright nail polish.
In a letter to parents, Bnos Menachem Director Motty Gurary outlined new standards for modesty expected of mothers who have girls that go to the school. She writes that these standards will "create a ripple effect in the community at large."
"As a group, we can make a significant difference if we try. We should not throw our hands up in despair, but rather, should unite to show our children that there is a better way," Guray writes in the letter, which was posted on CrownHeights.info.

These are the new standards, as described in the letter:
- Nail polish should be conservative/soft colors
- No denim
- Shaitel length should not exceed the shoulder blades
- No tight fitting or provocative clothing
- No leggings
- Elbows, feet, neckline completely covered
- Skirts mid calf
Those rules are part of a pledge included with the letter. The pledge requires the signature of both the mother and the father, even though the rules are for mothers only.

New parents will have to agree to the rules on applications.
"It should not be hard to meet these requirements, as our students need to keep similar rules," Guray writes, "and it is imperative that the home and the school follow the same standards."
