PHOTOS: Brooklyn Subway Stations Renamed For Medgar Evers
The MTA officially unveiled signs this week at two subway stations that now don the name of the civil rights leader.

CROWN HEIGHTS, BROOKLYN — Brooklynites taking the 2 train to Crown Heights might notice a new name enshrined at the Franklin Avenue and President Street stations.
The MTA and Brooklyn leaders officially renamed the two subway stations after civil rights leader Medgar Evers on Thursday, ending a months-long push for the local nod to Evers and Medgar Evers College.
"This is such an exciting day for us," New York City Transit Interim President Sarah Feinberg said. "In renaming these stations, we're not just affixing letters to a sign; we're honoring a school and a man that have done so much to move this city and this country forward."

Thursday's ceremony comes after Assembly Member Diana Richardson, an alumna of the CUNY school, introduced legislation calling for the MTA to rename the stations and, along with state Sen. Zellnor Myrie, lined up a $250,000 grant for the project.
Evers worked as a Black NAACP activist in Mississippi during the civil rights era who, among other actions, organized protests against segregation.
