Pop-Up Vaccine Sites Open At Brooklyn Churches, Senior Centers

Three pop-up vaccine centers will open this week through the state, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced.

BROOKLYN, NY — Three pop-up coronavirus vaccination sites will open this week in Brooklyn, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Wednesday.

The Brooklyn distribution sites are among 35 community-based facilities the state will open in churches, community centers, public housing complexes and cultural centers as part of its effort to bring vaccines to communities hardest-hit by the pandemic.

"COVID brought the ugly truth of inequity and inequality in this country to a tipping point," Cuomo said. "COVID has killed Black and Latino New Yorkers at a higher rate and that is why these community-based sites are one of New York's vaccine priorities. More than 9,000 New Yorkers have been vaccinated through this effort and by making the vaccine accessible and delivered by trusted community partners, we can address the skepticism and bring this life-saving vaccine to those who need it most."

The 35 new sites are expected to vaccinate more than 25,000 people throughout the week. They will revamp in three weeks to offer second doses, Cuomo said.
