Prospect Heights Hits 50% Vaccine Rate, Crown Heights Lags Behind

As little as 24 percent of adults in Crown Heights ZIP codes had gotten their first dose while Prospect Heights reached the 50 percent mark.

PROSPECT HEIGHTS, BROOKLYN — Prospect Heights' vaccine rate — which reached a milestone this week — is as much as double that of nearby Crown Heights ZIP codes, highlighting the disparity in vaccine distribution across New York City neighborhoods.

The 11238 ZIP code — which covers Prospect Heights and parts of Clinton Hill — is among the first in New York City to hit a 50 percent vaccination rate, meaning half of its residents have gotten at least the first of two shots against the coronavirus, city data shows.

The rate was far above that of nearby Crown Heights, where between 24 and 38 percent of adults had received the first dose in the four ZIP codes that include part of the neighborhood, according to the data.

The numbers underscore a trend that has plagued the city's vaccine effort since it began. The highest vaccination rates continue to be in wealthyManhattan ZIP codes and other majority-white neighborhoods, while neighborhoods hardest-hit by the coronavirus pandemic see lower vaccination rates.
