Prospect Heights Housing Lottery Waitlist Opens For $700 Studio

Rents for two buildings in Prospect Heights go for as low as $700 up to nearly $4,000 a month, according to the lottery listing.

PROSPECT HEIGHTS, BROOKLYN — Waitlist slots for some cheap and some-not-so-cheap apartments in two Prospect Heights buildings are up for grabs.

Up for grabs until June 12, that is, according to a recent city housing lottery listing.

The buildings are 816 Washington Ave. and 615 Sterling Pl. about a block apart across Classon Avenue. A one-person studio apartment is available for as low as $701 a month, provided a renter's income is below $64,000, according to the listing.

But the prices go up when more people and bedrooms are added. Two bedroom units for two renters stand at $1,861 a month and three-person, three bedroom units go for $2,142 a month, the listing states.

All those prices are in units marked at 80 percent of the area's median income. Other "affordable" units are only for people who make 130 percent of that, the listing states.

Those more-extensive units range from about $3,000 to about $4,000 a month, depending on a range of two to nine housemates, the listing states.
