Prospect Park Hosting Disability-Friendly Kids Ice Skating

The event Friday hosted by Extreme Kids will have adaptive sleds and ice walkers for kids with disabilities and shoe grips for parents.

PROSPECT LEFFERTS GARDENS, BROOKLYN — Few places in New York City cater to the needs children with disabilities may have while ice skating — but on Friday the rink at Prospect Park will be one of them.

The annual adaptive ice skating event hosted by Extreme Kids & Crew runs from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Lefrak Center near the park's lakeside. For that two hours, a rink will be reserved just for children with disabilities and their caregivers, according to a release.

"Extreme Kids hopes to avoid the intimidation that can come with a crowded rink and disability-unaware public by creating a disability-oriented space where children can feel comfortable and caregivers can feel supported," the release states.
