Prospect Park's Earth Day Goes Social Distancing Amid Coronavirus
Help clean up the park or go on a virtual guided tour of Brooklyn's last remaining forest during Earth Day next week.

PROSPECT HEIGHTS, BROOKLYN — Social distancing doesn't mean you can't celebrate the 50th Earth Day in Brooklyn's biggest park.
Prospect Park is holding coronavirus-free Earth Day events on April 22. They all promote a safe social distance that helps stop the virus' spread.
It's a public health concept that occasionally seemed lost on park goers who often attracted negative attention for their ill-advised congregations amid the pandemic.

A more hands-on program can be found with the Green-and-Go Volunteer Kit, which comes with a trash grabber, garbage bags, disposable gloves and instructions on how to safely volunteer in the park during the pandemic. Register in advance for a socially-distanced pick up time between 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
For those who can't leave home or are extra cautious, there's a Turnstile Tour Virtual Programhosted by forest ecologist Howard Goldstein that spotlights the park's 30,000 trees and woodland restoration efforts.
