WATCH: Crown Heights Eatery Is Featured On 'The Tonight Show'
Lakou Cafe was one of five New York City eateries chosen by the Tonight Show to receive a $20,000 check through a partnership with Google.

CROWN HEIGHTS, BROOKLYN — Brooklynites tuning into "The Tonight Show" earlier this week might have noticed some familiar faces before the show's commercial breaks.
After a quick "stick around everybody" from host Jimmy Fallon halfway through the show, scenes of Crown Heights' own Lakou Cafe appeared on the screen, its owners smiling through masks outside the Utica Avenue storefront.
"In Hatiain Creole, the lakou is the space where the community gathers and uplifts one another," words on the screen read, before cutting to Lakou's website.

"Despite the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, small businesses are finding ways to adapt and support their local communities — especially right here in New York, the city that thousands of Googlers and I call home," Grow with Google's Director Jesse Haines said about the partnership. "And who better to take us for a tour of a few beloved New York spots than “The Tonight Show” host and native New Yorker, Jimmy Fallon?
The New York City spots Google and Fallon got to know also included Grandchamps in Bed-Stuy and Manhattan's GupShup, Nuyorican Poets Cafe and Paris Blues Jazz Club.
On the show, Fallon and members of The Roots dined at GupShup and talked with its owner about his time working through the pandemic.
Sabrina Brockman and Lakou Cafe owner Cassandra Davilmar also got a special shout out from Haines for their work donating more than 11,000 meals to healthcare workers, first responders, protesters and families in need with World Central Kitchen. They also raised $10,000 to put together snacks and meals for more than 2,000 people.
