2 Women Killed In Far Rockaway House Fire, Authorities Say

Two firefighters were also injured in the blaze, which broke out at around 4 a.m. on Monday, fire officials say.

FAR ROCKAWAY, QUEENS -- Two women were killed in a house fire that broke out early Monday morning in Far Rockaway, authorities said.

The flames started at around 4 a.m. inside a house on the corner of Wheatley and Brunswick avenues, fire officials said. The fire was on the building's first and second floors.

By the time police arrived and firefighters extinguished the blaze, officers found two women unconscious inside, an NYPD spokesperson said.

Medics rushed the two women to Saint John's Hospital, where they were pronounced dead, cops said. Two firefighters were also injured in the blaze.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
