Thousands In Queens Lose Power As Tropical Storm Isaias Hits NYC
More than 48,000 Queens households lost power Tuesday as Tropical Storm Isaias descended on New York City.
QUEENS, NY — More than 48,000 Queens households lost power Tuesday — the most of any borough — as Tropical Storm Isaias descended on New York City.
Throughout the borough, an estimated 48,870 Con Edison customers had lost power as of 6 p.m., according to the utilities company.
Many of the outages are in southern Queens, including thousands of customers who lost power in and around South Ozone Park, South Jamaica and Laurelton, according to the Con Ed outage map.

The utilities company said its crews are working around the clock to fix outages during the severe weather.

The estimated time for restoring power to Queens customers is 7 a.m. Wednesday, pushed back from an initial estimate of 11 p.m. Tuesday.
Con Ed on Monday warned that strong winds caused by Isaias could knock trees onto power lines and cause outages.
Videos and photos posted to social media show downed trees across the borough, from Astoria to Woodhaven to Ozone Park.
I heard a crack while talking to @Ryanbarwick over slack. Thought it was in my backyard, turns out it was the front. pic.twitter.com/XsDHo6vfR7
