QUEENS, NY — Erstwhile Yankees baseball star Alex Rodriguez could soon be batting for the other team: He and fiancée Jennifer Lopez are making moves to buy the Mets, according to news reports.

The couple is working with JPMorgan Chase to raise capital for a possible bid for the baseball team, after billionaire hedge fund manager Steve Cohen walked away from a $2.6 billion deal to buy an 80-percent stake in the team, according to the New York Post and the business platform Sportico.

Rodriguez and Lopez reportedly have a combined net worth of about $700 million, according to the Post, which means they would need financial help to purchase the team.
