Chayim Shvarzblat Styles in Watercolor

Born and raised in Lakewood, New Jersey, and finishing his education in Paris at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière, Chayim Shvarzblat is used to adapting to different surroundings. As a successful artist, he has been fortunate to extend his travel experiences all over the world. This heavily affected his idea and style of painting and added to his teaching qualifications, which aid his skills when sharing his passion for watercolor. Chayim Shvarzblat was first drawn to watercolor painting after moving to Sicily. Equipped with nothing more than a basic painting kit, a pad and a strong desire to paint, he started creating.

Dating back thousands of years, watercolor is without a doubt one tricky medium to master. But in Chayim Shvarzblat’s personal experience, there are various techniques you can adopt to help, and it's certainly a skill worth pursuing. When you create a painting in watercolors, light reflects off the white of the paper and bounces up through the colors, giving it a luminosity that can be truly magical.

If you want to be a next-level artist, learning technique is only the beginning. Your drawings need to express your own personal style. Everybody can paint once they find their style. Some prefer to work in a more abstract style, other prefer to work with more detail, and many artists prefer to work in a more loose style. Developing a personal style takes a lot of work and experimenting. The good news is, doing those things is fun, exciting and a giant creativity boost. All in all, there is nothing mystical or magical about developing your own personal art style. Like any other element of your artistic process, style comes deliberately. It is something you build, and it doesn’t need to take years or even months.

For mixing different aqueous colors, Shvarzblat uses a palette, whether it is part of a set or separate. The method of mixing water colors is quite simple: painter puts one color in the palette, then adds another color.

By mixing two different colors painter will get a new color! If there are only several colors available for the painting, the knowledge of mixing colors is very useful. It is helpful to look at the color wheel to know what result to expect when mixing.

If the mixed color becomes dry on the pallet, feel free to rehydrate and it will be as new, no matter how long it has been dry.
