What: Kick off the fall season with a dance fiesta featuring music from the Peruvian brass band La Patronal. Combining their knowledge of folk culture with formal music studies allows the members of this band to “preserve their heritage while also bringing it to the present.”

A Voice for the Voiceless: World Premiere Music Event
Neighborhood:
Between Corona, Flushing and Willets Point
What: A new work created by composer Landon Knoblock “inspired by and created with the voices of youth in NYC public schools who experience homelessness and housing instability,” framing each story in a musical mixture of rock, electronic jazz and hip hop.
Where: Queens Theatre inside Flushing Meadows Corona Park
When: Friday at 7 p.m.

International Coastal Clean-Up Day: North Channel Bridge
Neighborhood:
Broad Channel
What: This all-volunteer cleanup event is part of a yearly, international effort coordinated in New York state to help marine life, shore birds, other wildlife and beachgoers have a less “trashy” beach experience. Participants should wear comfortable, closed-toe shoes and bring their own water, sunscreen and a hat.
Where: Crossbay Bridge North Channel Bridge Kayak Launch
When: Saturday at 10 a.m.

Viva la Comida Festival

Jackson Heights
What: A local festival that combines food, music, art, dance, entertainment and more to form a “pure collection of what makes 82nd Street the heart of the city.” Click here for more information.

Inner Mongolia Performing Arts Troupe
Neighborhood:
Flushing
What: A celebration of Inner Mongolian culture that brings the ethnic performing arts of dancers and musicians to the stage, including traditional long-tone and Mongolian throat singing and horse-head fiddles.

CinemaLIC Presents: “Ratatouille”

Long Island City
What: A family-friendly film screening on the banks of the East River.
Where: Hunter's Point South Park, Center Boulevard at Borden Avenue
When: Saturday at 7 p.m. Film begins at sunset.
